A day of celebrating freedom and community is set to take place in Deerfield Beach. As reported by the city's official website, the African American Heritage Board, along with the City of Deerfield Beach, is hosting the Juneteenth Centennial Celebration on Saturday, June 14. The event, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, kicks off from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Oveta McKeithen Recreation Complex, at 445 SW 2nd Street.
This year's observance is more than just reflection; it's an invitation for family and friends to come together for live music, food, empowerment, and fun. As the city's announcement states, the celebration offers "live music performances, a diverse selection of food from local food trucks, designated family reunion tents for connecting with loved ones, engaging empowerment sessions, and a dedicated kid's zone filled with fun activities."
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere will be Rodney Baltimore from HOT 105, who's set to host the day's events. The event's musical entertainment includes Deep Fried Funk, bringing their high-energy performance to the crowd. Deerfield Beach's very own Canton Jones, the Grammy-nominated contemporary gospel artist, will also grace the stage, promising a memorable performance for his hometown crowd. More information on the event can be found by calling the number provided or by visiting the city's page.
