In a push for a greener and more participatory future, Delray Beach has clinched a spot as a finalist for the 2025 All-America City Award, an accolade that shines a light on civic innovation and a commitment to environmental sustainability. Delray Beach is among 20 contenders vying for the title in an announcement made earlier today, reported by Delray Beach's official website.
Douglas Linkhart, President of the National Civic League, outlined the importance of inclusion and resilience in this year's theme, which focuses on communities that are effectively weaving in community-driven strategies to enhance environmental sustainability, stating in a statement obtained by Delray Beach's official website, “Communities thrive when all residents have a voice in the policies and decisions that shape their lives. This year’s finalists are leading the way by removing barriers to participation and implementing programs that foster sustainability, resilience, and inclusive engagement.”
Delray Beach is no stranger to this recognition, having been honored as an All-America City three times prior in 1993, 2001, and 2017, and this year's nomination affirms its ongoing dedication to tackling issues with collective action and resourceful tactics. The city has a record of initiatives centered around coastal resilience and sustainable development, and it has been particularly highlighted for its civic inclusion efforts, which strive to unite local governments and residents in pursuit of transformative changes with lasting impacts.
Mayor Tom Carney expressed pride for Delray Beach's achievements and finalist status, noting, "Being named a finalist for the All-America City Award is a tremendous honor that reflects the spirit, resilience, and unity of Delray Beach," Carney told Delray Beach's official website. And among the finalists are cities from all over the country, including Akron, Albuquerque, Austin, and others, all of whom will converge in Denver, Colorado, by the end of June to present their stories of success and engage in a friendly rivalry of urban innovation and cooperative governance for the coveted title.
The award event is scheduled for June 27-29, as per Delray Beach's official website, and it promises to offer a platform for exchange and partnership, featuring workshops, panel discussions, peer learning sessions, and a closing ceremony, where the final ten will be designated as the 2025 All-America Cities.
