Following a tragic incident in the Ville neighborhood, a man turned himself in after a fatal crash that claimed another's life. The accident, detailed in an update from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, occurred near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Whittier Street.
The collision, which occurred late Saturday night, involved a black Jeep Wrangler attempting to pass a gray Chrysler 300. As the Wrangler was passing, the Chrysler’s driver made a left turn onto Whittier, striking the Wrangler and causing it to overturn. While the Jeep’s passenger perished at the scene, the Chrysler’s driver fled on foot, leaving behind a scene of destruction and the tragic loss of life. After some time on the run, the driver took a step toward accountability, surrendering to authorities this morning.
In the aftermath of the crash, the SLMPD's Accident Reconstruction team is leading a detailed investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the incident. The department has not yet released information about potential charges or the identity of the deceased, as the investigation is ongoing.
