It's a win for El Paso and a moment of pride for Wiggs Middle School as sixth-grader Emiliano Ferran Martinez takes home first place in the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee. The event was held on Saturday at the Starlight Event Center, according to El Paso ISD. After grueling thirty rounds, Emiliano emerged victorious, spelling 'cardiovascular' with panache to bag the championship against a competitive crew from school districts such as Canutillo ISD and Socorro ISD.
Emiliano didn't just walk away with bragging rights; he also received a trophy, a medal, a certificate, and, not to be overlooked, a $30 Barnes & Noble gift card. Preparing to take his talents to the Texas State Spanish Spelling Bee on June 19, also at the Starlight Event Center, El Paso ISD conveyed its robust support and wish for good fortune as he represents the district.
