Residents and visitors in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood are on high alert after a series of armed robberies were reported, with the thieves targeting individuals for their cars and personal belongings. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, the latest incidents occurred on May 20, 2025, with one taking place in the 6800 block of S. Throop at 9:23 p.m. and another in the 5600 block of S. Green at 4:52 p.m.
The alert describes the suspects as two African-American males both donning black ski masks and black hooded sweatshirts, and brandishing firearms, in these robberies, they have been approaching victims on foot, demanding their vehicles and possessions, then escaping in the stolen cars, notably with a black Chrysler Town & Country as a support vehicle, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Community members are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant of their surroundings at all times. The police recommend reporting any suspicious behavior without delay and stress the importance of remaining composed if faced with an assailant. Echoing the words of the alert, “If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information,” and “Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.”
