Former NFL player Kevin Ware Jr. has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, who was 29 years old at the time of her death, Click2Houston reported. Ware, a former tight end for the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers, reached a plea deal with the prosecution and pleaded guilty yesterday, according to court records.

The sentence concludes a tragic case that began when Pomaski disappeared after a party at her home on April 25, 2021, prompting a search that ended when human remains, later identified as those belonging to Pomaski, were discovered in a ditch in north Harris County in December 2021, as per information from ABC13. Ware, 41, also faced drug and weapons charges after an incident where he was pulled over for speeding, allegedly travelling 115 mph, and law enforcement discovered a loaded AK-47, other firearms and drugs in his vehicle these charges resulted in a concurrent 15-year sentence.

Before his girlfriend's disappearance, Ware was arrested on drug and weapons charges in Montgomery County and released on bond, but he was soon taken into custody again for failing to appear in court and not checking in with the probation office, during which time he was found in possession of a firearm, Click2Houston added. Moreover, court documents revealed the horrific details of Pomaski's murder, stating that Ware "cut her with a knife, hit her with a blunt object, strangled her and then burned her corpse."

Ware, a convicted felon, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to deliver/manufacture a controlled substance.
