The search for Victoria Harris, a 25-year-old pregnant woman missing since May 16 after leaving Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, continues as her family and police seek the public's assistance. Standing 5 feet 5 inches with short brown dreadlocks, Harris left the hospital without shoes and was last seen wearing dark blue overalls with a black shirt underneath. As reported by FOX 5, the family is deeply concerned given her mental condition and the fact that she is several months pregnant.
According to a 11Alive report, Harris's sister, Brittaney Bethea, stated that Harris was suffering from schizoaffective disorder, adding an increased level of worry to the family. The facility where Harris was expected to be transferred reportedly rescinded the admission due to a mix-up, and she was discharged without immediate family being notified. "I was just really concerned that she was discharged in the state that she was without contacting me like they had done the days prior," Bethea told 11Alive.
It has been noted that Victoria Harris went to the hospital to seek psychiatric help, and her family expected her to be sent to a long-term psychiatric facility. Instead, she found herself discharged reportedly due to her pregnancy, according to the family's representative, who spoke with FOX 5. Harris's mental health causes her intense delusions and hallucinations, and it is feared that she may struggle to recognize where she is or be aware of the date or time.
The last confirmed sighting was last Thursday, at a Kroger near the Lindbergh MARTA station, as per a security guard's account and a photo taken. There was also a tip that she had been near Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs yesterday. As a result, the search has been focused on the Midtown, Lindbergh, Lenox, and Medical Center MARTA stations. The family, in a statement obtained by FOX 5, has expressed their gratitude for the public's help and continues to urge anyone with information to report any sightings of Harris.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact 911 or the Atlanta Police Homicide/Adult Missing Persons Unit at 404-546-4235.
