The legal saga surrounding former Turkey Leg Hut co-owner Lyndell "Lynn" Price has taken an additional twist, with Price seeking to have his federal arson case dismissed over claims of violated rights to fair trial. Price's attorneys have filed a motion claiming his Sixth Amendment rights were infringed upon due to an alleged conflict of interest involving his former attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, as reported by Click2Houston.
The conflict comes from Quinones-Hollins currently representing John Lee Price—who is not related to Lynn Price—but is a co-defendant and key witness for the prosecution. Lynn Price's lawyers claim that Quinones-Hollins helped arrange talks between John Lee Price and federal prosecutors that hurt Lynn's case. They also say Quinones-Hollins represented Lynn in a different federal case in 2020, where their communications should have been protected by attorney-client privilege, according to Click2Houston.
Lynn Price is accused of orchestrating a June 2020 arson against Bar 5015, a rival establishment. His indictment last month brought charges that, until then, had gone unresolved for years. Claims from The Houston Chronicle suggest that his initial indictment was substantially aided by John Lee Price's cooperation with the FBI, following his own separate legal troubles involving drug charges.
With the intricacies of lawyer-client relationships in the limelight, Lynn Price's current attorneys argue, "Attorney Quinones-Hollins failed to protect Mr. Price's rights when she was made aware of his desire to cooperate against Mr. Price and contacted the government to facilitate a proffer session implicating Mr. Price," as stated in The Houston Chronicle. Furthermore, they emphasize the legal duty of Quinones-Hollins to her former client and suggest her involvement has led directly to Lynn Price's indictment and detention, a point, that highlights the charged atmosphere surrounding the case.
Lynn Price is also asking the court to block any evidence linked to John Lee Price. This move aims to weaken the prosecution’s case by questioning key testimony. So far, prosecutors and co-defendants haven’t responded to the dismissal request. No matter the result, the case raises important issues about legal ethics and the right to a fair trial, highlighting the need for clear lines in attorney-client relationships.
