The Wylie Police Department reported that a former treasurer for the Wylie Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) has been placed in cuffs for a high-value theft. The department disclosed via a social media post that John Freeman, 37, of Midlothian, was arrested on charges of lifting property worth more than $300,000 from the local youth soccer organization's coffers.

Beginning to suspect financial foul play last August, the WYSA honed in on peculiar activity in their QuickBooks account. An audit fast-tracked an investigation that, starting January 27, illuminated a cascade of unauthorized transactions. The paper trail, dating back to October 2019, incriminated Freeman in siphoning off a stream of the association's funds.

At the heart of the investigation stood Detective Alexandra Waters, whose concerted efforts with the Wylie Police Department resulted in obtaining Freeman's arrest warrant. The former treasurer was arrested on Monday, May 12th, after the evidence pieced together a clear picture of the alleged embezzlement. "Upon reviewing all of the financial documentation, Wylie detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Freeman," the department stated succinctly. He was apprehended smoothly and is currently housed in the Wylie Jail pending further legal procedures.

Police are urging anyone with additional information on the case to come forward, calling on the community's commitment to justice.
