Commuters in Fort Lauderdale experienced an unexpected delay yesterday afternoon when the Davie Boulevard Bridge encountered a mechanical issue, causing it to remain stuck in its raised position. According to NBC Miami, the hiccup in the bridge's operation affected the flow of rush hour traffic, prompting city officials to dispatch service technicians to the site for repairs.
The incident unfolded just before the peak of the evening commute, and drivers were urged to steer clear of the area and consider alternate routes. Footage from the scene, as seen from Chopper6, revealed the bridge locked in an open position. As per the City of Fort Lauderdale's prompt X update, the bridge eventually resumed normal services, thanking the public for their patience concerning the temporary inconvenience.
Meanwhile, over on the coverage by WSVN, it was reported that the snag occurred east of Interstate 95, with aerial views from 7Skyforce showcasing the predicament that had enveloped the Davie Boulevard drawbridge. Traffic was redirected at Southwest 15th Avenue, which likely led to some commuter frustration as vehicles bottlenecked and tempers flared in the unexpected congestion.
Fortunately, the situation was fairly short-lived, with technicians managing to rectify the malfunction within approximately one hour. By 5 p.m., the drawbridge had been reopened to traffic, restoring the flow of vehicles across the New River and easing the tensions of those caught up in a momentary standstill.
