On a summer day in 2020, Sarah Frei's life took an unexpected turn when a drunk driver struck her car head-on, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down and necessitating the amputation of both legs, a story of resilience unfolded as Frei, determined not to be defined by tragedy, pursued her dream of becoming an educator, drawing on support from family and friends to overcome numerous hurdles, she completed her degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University Kaysville, now five years hence from that fateful day, Frei is a graduate ready to stamp her authority in the academic world.
Despite her physical challenges, Frei's resolve has not wavered; the accident and lengthy recovery have not dulled her spirits or diminished her drive. She remained focused on her goal to graduate from college and embrace a teaching career as she had envisioned since elementary school. Frei's education path led her to the USU campus, but later shifted her studies online and to the closer Kaysville campus to better manage her new reality. Her persistence and positive outlook on life have made an impression on those around her. Kristen Walton, director of Student Services for the USU Brigham City Region, told USU Today that Frei has been a beacon of the "Aggie Spirit," exhibiting "intelligence, dedication, resilience, and optimism" throughout her journey.
Adding to her academic triumphs Frei has maintained an active lifestyle, engaging in skydiving, wakeboarding, and other adventures, chronicling these experiences on her Instagram page (strong.like.sarah), where she fosters a community of individuals navigating life on wheels, Sarah has utilized this platform to share advice, experiences, and inspire others in similar circumstances, daring them to pursue happiness and remain hopeful despite adversities, as obtained by USU Today.
