The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is now spearheading inquiries into an officer-involved shooting in Poulan, GA. The incident resulted in 33-year-old Jordan Wheatley receiving injuries, while no law enforcement personnel were harmed during the altercation, as confirmed by a press release posted on the bureau's official website.
Details unveiled by the GBI reveal that on Sunday, around 8:10 p.m., the Worth County 911 dispatch was contacted for support regarding a domestic disturbance taking place on the 100 block of Hickory Street, SW. Responding first to the scene was an officer from the Poulan Police Department, who, upon arrival, was met with gunfire from Wheatley. Following the initial encounter, the officer called for backup, drawing multiple law enforcement units to the fray. Wheatley subsequently engaged a Worth County Sheriff's deputy in a shootout, although shots fired by Wheatley missed their target. He retreated into his residence afterwards, and later a SWAT team from Worth County located Wheatley in a bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound.
Wheatley was promptly transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. The press release yesterday, further states that the GBI will conduct its independent investigation on the shooting incident. Ultimately, the completed case file will be handed over to the Tift Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, which will review the findings and determine the subsequent legal actions.
