A Poulan, Georgia, incident escalated into an intense standoff and shootout between law enforcement and 33-year-old Jordan Wheatley over the weekend. The confrontation started with a domestic disturbance call and ended in shots fired and a SWAT team's intervention. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), officers responded to the call on Hickory Street, where they were met with gunfire from Wheatley, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.
The situation intensified when Wheatley shot at a Worth County Sheriff's deputy after first engaging with a Poulan Police Department officer. No officers were injured in the exchange. Wheatley then barricaded himself inside a bedroom, leading to SWAT involvement. In a statement obtained by WALB, the GBI revealed that Wheatley attempted to escape from the back of the home but was confronted by deputies who instructed him to put down his weapon. Instead, he fired several shots at them before retreating back into the home.
Ultimately, the SWAT team found Wheatley in the bedroom with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. As described by official sources, he was arrested and received medical attention for his injuries. Details of his current condition haven't been released.
