Runners from across the globe came together in Indianapolis for the 2025 IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, drawing participants from over 20 countries and all corners of the United States. Yesterday, downtown Indianapolis was the epicenter of this monumental event, featuring over tens of thousands of competitors who tested their endurance and speed.
Amidst the excitement, Kentucky's Brandon Olden crossed the finish line with a time of 1:04:39.45, crowning him the male winner of the Mini-Marathon, according to WRTV. In the women's category, it was Mercy Chelangat from Flagstaff, Arizona, who smashes the course record with her pace-setting time of 1:10:31.25, detailed by FOX59. The festivities included a moment for participants to pause and "kiss the bricks" at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a tradition steeped in the fabric of the race.
The Delta Dental 5K, which is part of the event's kickoff, declared Olin Hacker and Josette Andrews the victors in the USATF division. Hacker, hailing from Flagstaff, Arizona, crossed the finish line with a time of 13:31.93, while Andrews, from Boulder, Colorado, completed her race in 15:05.55, WTHR reported.
In the non-USATF categories of the same event, runners Matt Moler and Lilly Higgins claimed the top spots. Midwest City's Moler finished with a time of 15:24.86, while Higgins, native to Arcadia, Indiana, secured her win with a time of 18:26.45, as recorded by WTHR. With the scoreboards bearing their victorious times, both runners can rightly savor their remarkable achievements.
Participants and fans had more to cheer for with the Athletes with Disabilities division. Leading with tenacity, Holly Koester from Walton Hills, Ohio, won her division, a triumph celebrated and indicated by FOX59. The event's organizers are already looking ahead, opening the registrations for the 50th Running of the Mini-Marathon slated on May 2, 2026.
