Utah's economic landscape is set to receive a fresh impetus as Gov. Spencer Cox announced the appointment of Jefferson Moss as the new executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO). As reported by the Utah Governor's Office, Moss is geared up to transition out of his role as majority leader in the Utah House of Representatives to begin to assume his interim position at GOEO starting June 2, pending confirmation by the Utah Senate.
With a resume that comprises stints in both the public sector and the private enterprise, Moss will be bringing a depth of experience to the table. He will not just continue in his current role with the Utah System of Higher Education after stepping down from his legislative role, but he will also reach out for leverage on his experience to bolster Utah's business development and economic ventures. "Jefferson Moss brings a rare combination of public service, private sector experience, and a deep understanding of innovation and education,” Gov. Cox extolled, as mentioned by the Utah Governor's Office.
Moss's track record paints a portrait of a man with a keen eye on innovation. While in his earlier career, with posts at KeyBank and Credit Suisse, to founding businesses, he showcased his business acumen. His time with the Utah System of Higher Education marked a commitment to marrying education with commercial ventures, overseeing the Innovation District at The Point, and coordinating with varied sectors on economic development initiatives.
In stepping into his new role, Moss acknowledged the honor of his legislative duties while already focusing on the task ahead. “Serving in the legislature has been one of the great honors of my life”, Moss said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the people of Utah in this new capacity and help advance the Governor’s vision for economic opportunity across the state,” according to Utah Governor's Office. His dual-degree background from Brigham Young University in Political Science and his MBA seem to be put to strategic and visionary use as he prepares to take on a mantle that promises growth and new business frontiers for Utah.
