Maricopa County has officially introduced its on-site childcare facility named Kids Club, according to a press release from the county. Located at 441 W. Madison St. in downtown Phoenix, this 12,000-square-foot space is a stone's throw from the county administration and other official buildings. The facility, aiming to ease the burden of childcare for county employees, offers care for children ranging from six weeks to five years of age and is managed by KinderCare, a national entity recognized for its early childhood education services.
"This unique resource is just one of the many benefits the county offers to attract and retain a qualified workforce in the long term," Chairman Thomas Galvin of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors told Maricopa County News. The county manager, Jen Pokorski, highlighted the struggle to find affordable childcare as a significant employment barrier, especially for women, and expressed confidence that Kids Club will enable more effective balancing of work and family duties for many families in the area. The center currently operates daily with extended hours and is considering eventually opening 24 hours to better serve second- and third-shift workers.
The physical environment of Kids Club has been crafted with security and positive early childhood outcomes in mind. With details such as calming colors and plenty of natural light, the space is designed to provide a learning atmosphere tailored to each age group it serves. There’s also an emphasis on physical activity, with both outdoor and indoor play areas set up for children to channel their energy.
"Access to high-quality childcare is a necessity for working families, yet we know it’s challenging for many families to find care that's tailored for a variety of workday schedules," Dan Figurski, president of KinderCare for Employers and Champions, explained, as noted by the Maricopa County News.
Aside from childcare options, Maricopa County employees can access a full suite of benefits that include health, dental, and vision plans with low premiums, and even perks like paid parental leave, retirement savings plans, and free public transit. Jobs and details on these benefits are available on the Maricopa County website. Similarly, KinderCare Learning Companies offers a wide array of early childhood and school-age education and care across the country.
