The City of Maricopa is putting a spotlight on the young employees who have managed to juggle their high school education while contributing significantly to the community’s operations. Through various roles, from lifeguarding to assisting in city-run recreation programs, these industrious seniors have exemplified dedication by balancing demanding school schedules with part-time jobs that aid in city governance and service provision. Maricopa Mayor Nancy Smith, recognizing their efforts, stated, “In a city as young and ambitious as Maricopa, it's only fitting that we celebrate young leaders who are already helping us build something great. Their journey is just beginning, and we’re lucky to be part of it,” according to a publication by the City of Maricopa.
Among the graduating class, there is a mix of scholars, athletes, and future servicemen and women, all of whom have already made their mark on the city. Take Aaron Martinez, for example, a recreation aide at Desert Sunrise High School, who is set to major in marketing at ASU in Tempe. Then there's Jaden Hill from Heritage Academy, who will be pursuing a future at the US Naval Academy with aspirations of becoming an astronaut. These young individuals are not only moving on with profound commitments to their education and country; they've also contributed to the lifeline of Maricopa.
As the Class of 2025 prepares for their future endeavors, Maricopa is recognizing their achievements with not just platitudes but genuine accolades for their tangible contributions. “To our graduates: Your hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. You’ve already made an impact here, and we can’t wait to see how far you’ll go," Mayor Smith was quoted in the same news release. Students like Luca Hernandez and Teyon Green are among those who are aiming to seamlessly blend their athletic prowess with academic goals, like a physical therapy or business major, and college-level football, respectively. Others like Ami Griffin have chosen to continue serving the community while they map out their future courses.
