A 53-year-old man from McHenry tragically passed away after crashing his electric scooter in what appears to be a single-vehicle accident last Saturday morning. The incident took place in unincorporated McHenry County, along the 5000 block of Wildwood Drive, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
At around 10:03 a.m. on Saturday, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, along with the Island Lake Police Department and Wauconda Fire District, responded to a scene where preliminary findings indicate the operator was traveling southbound on Wildwood Drive on a Segway eKick Scooter ZT3 Pro. He was ejected from the scooter for reasons still under investigation and was not wearing a helmet, which may have contributed to the severity of his injuries.
The man, who has not been publicly identified pending next of kin notification, was rushed to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington after being discovered in the roadway. Despite the efforts of the emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the hospital, as detailed by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit has assumed responsibility for the investigation, collaborating with the Lake County Coroner’s Office to reconstruct the events that led to this tragic outcome.
