The Memphis Police Department (MPD) has been busy making the rounds at local elementary schools as the academic year comes to a close. Officers across the city visited several schools to engage with students about careers in law enforcement and instill vital lessons beyond the core academic curriculum. The Memphis Police Department said that these visits are part of an ongoing effort to build stronger relationships within the community, especially among the youth.

During these career day events, students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the day-to-day realities of policing. MPD officers from different stations—including Crump Station, Airways Station, Appling Farms Station, Austin Peay Station, and Tillman Station—addressed various topics with the students. These topics ranged from dealing with bullying and peer pressure to understanding gun safety and the importance of making good life choices.

Among the schools visited, Pre-K students at Knowledge Quest were introduced to the hopes of a future career in law enforcement through the Career on Wheels event at Bruce Elementary, where officers brought in vehicles and other police equipment. Similarly, the K-9 Unit and Harbor Patrol made appearances, demonstrating the diverse facets of the department’s operations to eager learners at Cornerstone-Lester Campus.

Officers also attended schools like Alcy Elementary and White Station Elementary, sharing insights into law enforcement career tracks. And it wasn't just the human element of policing that was on display. The D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. unit, known for its dedicated efforts to provide youth with alternatives to substance abuse and violence, was in attendance, as described in the MPD's social media post. This involvement showcases the department's dedication to preventive education as a component of their initiative.
