A Memphis Police officer lost his life in a vehicular accident on Interstate 240, the department reported today. The deceased officer, Patrolman Charles L. Harrison, was responding when he encountered a traffic backup caused by an earlier stop involving an individual suspected of intoxication.
As patrolman Harrison navigated the congested traffic, the quick stop of the vehicle ahead led to a collision, which sent his motorcycle careening into the air, the Memphis Police Department stated in a social media post. During the incident, his vehicle came to rest on top of him.
Harrison was quickly transported to Baptist Hospital following the incident. Despite the rapid response and the best efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries.
