A man has been arrested after a distressing encounter in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami, according to local police. Jorge Armando Ortega, 46, faces a slew of charges which include sexual battery, kidnapping, burglary, and drug possession, as detailed in reports from NBC Miami.
The incident began last Saturday when a 62-year-old woman discovered Ortega in her son’s closet upon returning home. Police reports state that she was subsequently assaulted and almost raped, with the struggle escalating to the point where she had to defend herself using a pair of scissors. Despite being wounded, the victim managed to thwart Ortega's attempts by staying face down on the floor. In an unexpected turn of events, Ortega continued to linger in the apartment, even taking the audacity to ask for food and drink coffee as he waited out his time there.
Following the assault, Ortega stayed in the victim’s residence against her will, where he smoked a cigarette and sorted his belongings, according to the arrest report obtained by NBC Miami. He fled only after learning that the victim's son was returning home. The aftermath of the attack was made more bizarre when Ortega asked the victim about the incoming call on her phone and left a plastic rose on her coffee table before fleeing.
Law enforcement apprehended Ortega the following day in a neighboring apartment building, asleep on someone else’s couch, as revealed by an Instagram post by the victims. He was found in possession of methamphetamine and a glass pipe, which contributed to the charges against him, as per the Instagram report.
Ortega now faces the possibility of life in prison should he be found guilty of the crimes leveled against him.
