Early morning violence shook Miami's Little Havana neighborhood when a man, attempting to protect his property, was hospitalized following a shooting. According to 7News, the incident took place around 2:00 a.m. today at the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street and 13th Avenue. Police are investigating a vehicle with apparent bullet damage as part of their inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting.
The situation escalated when, based on police radio communications, the victim allegedly pursued individuals he suspected of breaking into his car near Navarro's parking lot. The confrontation led to gunfire, and the man sustained an injury from a gunshot wound to the armpit area. “The incident happened in front of the Navarro parking lot. Two males. When he approached them, the subject shot him about three times; one of them struck the car, and one of them struck him,” an official was heard stating over Broadcastify. The victim, appearing to be alert, was later transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, as per 7News.
Further reporting from NBC Miami indicates the confrontation began after the man noticed two or three men attempting to break into his car. This led to a confrontation that spanned two locations, eventually leading to the victim being shot in the arm. The initial location was given as 1243 Southwest 8th Street, coinciding with a Navarro pharmacy, and the subsequent location was 910 Southwest 10th Avenue.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the police have not confirmed if there was a return of gunfire during the confrontation.
