On Tuesday, an undercover operation targeting sex trafficking and prostitution led to the arrest of 29-year-old Angel Diaz-Carvajal. Conducted by Specialized Investigations Division detectives, a call was made to a number from an online advertisement, which led to a meeting at a Bell Road motel parking lot with a woman claiming to be victimized by Diaz-Carvajal.
When the woman approached the detective's unmarked vehicle, initially there to engage in what was promoted as an illicit exchange, she was detained but not without opening a window. According to the Nashville government's official site, she alleged that Diaz-Carvajal lured her with a job as a maid, but upon arrival in Nashville, he coerced her into prostitution, withheld food, and kept all the earnings under threats, leaving her in fear for her life and without sustenance for over a day.
Diaz-Carvajal, who tried to escape when confronted by the authorities, was quickly caught. The charges brought against him include trafficking for a commercial sex act and promoting prostitution, as well as evading and resisting arrest. The details of his capture, provided by the authorities, underscore the decisive action taken to halt his attempt to evade justice.
Currently, Diaz-Carvajal is being held on a $185,000 bond.
