A deadly altercation erupted inside a Roseland business on Monday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and leaving another person critically wounded, according to Chicago police. The incident, which transpired in the 100 block of East 111th Street shortly after 4 p.m., involved three men embroiled in a verbal dispute that quickly escalated when one of the individuals brandished a firearm and commenced shooting, police detailed.
The gunfire claimed the life of 34-year-old Monte Potts, who sustained a shot to the back. He was promptly transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m., the Chicago Sun-Times reported. An autopsy for Potts, a resident of the 7100 block of South Vale Avenue, is pending, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Another victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head and right forearm and is listed in critical condition at Christ Medical Center. The suspected shooter was apprehended at the scene, whose condition was reported as good when he was taken to Roseland Hospital, ABC7 Chicago included in its coverage of the violent episode.
Detectives from Area Two are actively investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Notwithstanding, the identities of the second victim and the alleged shooter have not been disclosed, nor has there been further information regarding what specifically prompted the altercation.
