A devastating early morning collision on I-95 in Pompano Beach resulted in a prolonged closure of all southbound lanes and has left at least one person dead. The crash, involving a Mercedes Sprinter van and a black Tesla, occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near Exit 33 to Cypress Creek Road. In an unsettling scene captured on video, the Mercedes van could be seen lying on its side, while the Tesla was severely damaged with airbags deployed, as reported by NBC Miami.
According to CBS News Miami, the Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrived to investigate rapidly, appearing at the scene around 2:15 a.m. They began to methodically comb the area for evidence. The process of clearing the interstate and towing away the wrecked vehicles led to traffic being disrupted for hours, with southbound lanes near Atlantic Boulevard reopening by 11 a.m.
The identity of the deceased from the crash has not yet been made public. In a separate but closely timed incident, another crash was reported a few exits down I-95, involving an additional vehicle and what appeared to be a Road Ranger truck. This second crash, which took place before 4 a.m., has not been reported to result in any injuries, although details remain sparse.
The investigation is still ongoing, and they have yet to publicly determine the cause of the crash or to discharge information regarding potential casualties from the second incident.
