An investigation into horrific animal neglect in Palm Beach has led to the arrest of 73-year-old Pamela Howell Beres, charged with a string of felony animal cruelty offenses. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office laid the charges following the discovery of severely neglected horses in Beres' care, including a deceased horse, as reported by WPBF.
The ordeal began over a year ago in March 2024 when the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control lodged a complaint which presented a disturbing portrait of multiple emaciated horses, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office revealed amid their investigation they observed horses with exposed ribs and hip bones and identified a dire lack of proper sustenance, the animals apparently left without even the basic necessity of clean water or enough food to maintain them, CBS12 detailed the animals' plight.
Details became more unsettling when it emerged that Beres had displayed unorthodox behavior during a veterinary check on February 23, 2024, where she infamously licked the eyes of a critically ill horse, purportedly asserting, "I know you like this, this is some kind of sex," CBS12 reported the bizarre incident.
Following their seizure, the animals underwent extensive rehabilitation, and three months of adequate care led to significant health improvements demonstrating what structured recovery could ensure, though the deep scars of cruelty were marked by the irrecoverable loss the deceased horse represents, per WPBF's coverage. Beres faces allegations not only tied to the animal cruelty but also the confinement of animals without proper essentials such as food and water.
