The Portland Police Bureau has opened a personal window into the lived experiences of an officer who nearly lost his life. Their Strategic Communications Unit released a video titled "Under Fire: A Portland Police Officer’s Story of Survival," which details the harrowing experience of Police Officer Adi Ramic during a traffic stop turned life-threatening incident that occurred three years ago.
Having moved through the channels of justice, the case against the shooter has reached its conclusion, with the individual involved serving a prison sentence. With the wounds of that night possibly yet tender, Officer Ramic shares, in a video released by the Portland Police Bureau, aspects of his journey from immigrant to law enforcement officer—painting a stark picture of the perils faced in the line of duty, and the strong ties forged in the crucible of survival.
Chief Bob Day expressed his relief and gratitude at Officer Ramic's sharing of this ordeal, emphasizing the narrative's timely resonance with National Police Week's commencement. "I’m sincerely grateful that Officer Ramic survived this dangerous encounter that night three years ago and that he is now willing to share his deeply personal story with our community," the Chief remarked, per Portland Police Bureau news release, reflecting on the importance of addressing crime for the flourishing of Portlanders.
