In a series of events that could be ripped from a script of a cable crime show, a repeat theft suspect was caught red-handed at a Target in Colma. The Colma Police Department detailed the incident on their social media, revealing that on April 25, a theft report was made concerning a male suspect who had stolen a significant amount of cosmetics from the establishment that morning.
The theft at Target at 5001 Junipero Serra Boulevard was part of a string under the suspect's belt. The previous day, on April 24, he had managed to lift over a thousand dollars' worth of cosmetics from the same location. The tenacity of the suspect’s actions, each theft happening at the cusp of dawn, suggests a boldness that is usually reserved for the more desperate or the more experienced in petty crime.
The police's break came the following day when, at approximately 7:52 AM, officers were dispatched again to Target on a report of a theft in progress. Upon arrival, the officers located the subject exiting the store. Hot on his heels were loss prevention officers from Target. The suspect was detained and confirmed to be the individual responsible for the thefts from the previous days.
Liavia Maaewilson, a 33-year-old South San Francisco resident, didn't go down without a slight deception, initially providing a false name to law enforcement. Nevertheless, the truth came out, and he was arrested for burglary, grand theft, organized retail theft, and providing officers with a false name. Maaewilson was then booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
