As Salt Lake City gears up for the highly anticipated Kilby Block Party, scheduled to take place from May 15th to 18th, the city's police department is stepping in with measures to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely for all in attendance. According to SLCPD, an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 attendees per day are expected at the Utah State Fairpark, and the Salt Lake City Police Department is partnering with emergency teams to address any potential risks.
In addition to the police, collaboration with Salt Lake City Emergency Management and the Salt Lake City Fire Department has been forged, altogether yielding a comprehensive strategy that, while not projecting significant city impact, recognizes an impending surge of traffic, pedestrian presence, and burgeoning businesses and residents should brace for. Event attendees have been advised by SLCPD to remain aware of their surroundings and report any irregularities to the proper authorities; this advice extends to staying vigilant in and around the Fairpark neighborhood, observing traffic rules, and maintaining the peace.
Specific tips offered to festival-goers include: drinking responsibly, staying hydrated, using designated areas for pick-ups and drop-offs to lessen traffic jams, opting for public transportation or ridesharing services to avoid parking woes, and ensuring valuables are secured or removed when parking a vehicle. Personal and community safety are emphasized as priorities by the police department, wherein respect for residents and maintenance of order stand paramount in the execution of a successful event.
