The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco has issued a heads-up on strong onshore winds and unsettled weather patterns expected to hit the Bay Area, starting today and carrying into the early part of the week. According to NWS San Francisco, wind gusts are predicted to reach the 25-35mph range, with some areas experiencing gusts up to 50mph, particularly in higher terrain and through gaps like Altamont Pass and Pacheco Pass. The NWS advises locals to secure any loose outdoor objects to prevent them from being damaged or becoming airborne hazards.

In their Area Forecast Discussion, the NWS also mentions light rainfall, below normal temperatures, and a slight chance for thunderstorms, though at a low 10% probability for the latter. Light rain and strong gusts could disrupt power lines and make it tough for high-profile vehicles to travel. For Oakland’s Museum (OAMC1), some temperature records may be in danger of being matched or surpassed with the forecast looming close to historic lows set in the '70s. Meanwhile, the aviation sector is expected to maintain mostly Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions despite potential visibility issues at Half Moon Bay (HAF) and possible challenges due to the brisk winds and incoming cold front, which might bring MVFR ceilings and scattered showers.

On the marine front, the NWS warns of breezy conditions and near gale-force gusts today, which are set to ease up a bit into Monday. However, certain pockets will still see hazardous conditions extending into the start of the week with a front bringing potential light rain and lowered winds before kicking up again midweek. The outlook for the longer term incorporates a fair degree of uncertainty, but most projections point to temperatures sticking around slightly below seasonal norms.
