San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has formally charged 21-year-old Trayvon Williams with murder related to a fatal shooting in the Mission District. The arraignment, scheduled for today at the Hall of Justice, includes charges of first-degree residential burglary and several felony firearm violations, casting Williams with an image of one who carries the double-edged sword of presumed innocence and alleged guilt. The detailed charges include the possession of an assault weapon and carrying a loaded firearm by a non-registered owner, as noted in an announcement from the SF District Attorney's Office.

The incident prompted a quick response from the San Francisco Police Department last Friday, when they were summoned to a residence on the 26th Street block after a victim, later pronounced dead, was found with a gunshot wound. Williams was allegedly captured on surveillance video entering the home, firing a shot as the door shuts behind him, the District Attorney's office stated in their social media report. The joint effort between the San Francisco and Novato Police Departments, as well as Marin County SWAT, led to Williams' arrest in Novato on Wednesday, a narrative further confirmed in a post by the Novato Police Department, which extended thanks to local police authorities for their joint operation.
Despite the arrest, the investigation by the San Francisco Police Department continues to be active. Community members with information are encouraged to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or to text a tip, prefacing the message with "SFPD," to TIP411.
