The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has commenced a major maintenance operation on the TRAX Red Line, disrupting service from May 24 to August 17. According to KUTV, travelers must find alternative routes during this period as the Red Line ceases to run between the Courthouse and the University Medical Center.

According to KSL, the need for maintenance stems from the high wear and tear on the infrastructure, particularly along an S-shaped curve where 400 South turns into 500 South. "It does go through a pretty significant amount of wear and tear, so that's a big part of what we're doing there," UTA's spokesperson Carl Gustafson explained. In light of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, some limited Red Line services will briefly resume from July 3 to July 5 to accommodate the festivities at the university.

Passengers should brace for delays of up to 45 minutes, as construction will be active around the clock, according to ABC4. The extensive work includes replacing interlocking systems, overhead wires, guard rails, and track connections.

The courthouse, library, trolley, 900 East, stadium, university south campus, Fort Douglas, and university medical center will not see Red Line service during the maintenance. Barring any unforeseen complications, regular service is projected to return on Monday, August 18.
