Following a recent officer-involved incident, the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) has identified the suspect as 18-year-old Carlos Felipe Ocampo-Flores. Court documents reveal that on Monday night, the young man allegedly led police on a high-speed chase, resulting in multiple parked cars being damaged along 600 West, as reported by SLCPD.

According to the same release, the incident began when an SLCPD officer attempted to pull over a vehicle driving recklessly without headlights. Ocampo-Flores is accused of fleeing the scene after crashing his vehicle, which later led to his confrontation with the officers two blocks away. During this encounter, he reportedly made motions toward his waistband, prompting an officer to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect.

After being shot, Ocampo-Flores is said to have continued to act combatively, threatening harm to the officers and their families, in addition to throwing objects and resisting arrest. Officers deployed a Taser to subdue him and take him into custody. The suspect also allegedly threatened and attempted to assault emergency medical personnel while receiving treatment, as stated by SLCPD.

Ocampo-Flores was transported to the hospital by Salt Lake City Fire and Gold Cross paramedics, where he remains under guard with non-life-threatening injuries. Upon his release, he will face multiple charges, including assault on emergency medical providers and possession of a controlled substance.
