In a major nationwide operation led by the FBI, the Department of Justice has announced the arrest of 205 individuals for child sex abuse offenses, as well as the rescue of 115 children. Dubbed Operation Restore Justice, this initiative was a coordinated effort involving all 55 FBI field offices, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the Department's Criminal Division, and U.S. Attorney's Offices across the country, according to a press release from the DOJ. The operation spanned five days and targeted the identification, tracking, and apprehension of child sex predators. In the Southern District of Florida, six offenders were among those arrested.

One of the cases in Florida involved Benjamin Tokoma Sanders, 23, of Oakland, Fla., who was charged with both possession and production of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on April 24. Similarly, others such as Tre’ Anthony Roberts, and Katriel Victor Marmol faced serious charges in connection with child exploitation as detailed in the DOJ's announcement. These local cases highlight the pervasive nature of these crimes and the continuing efforts of law enforcement to combat them. The Southern District of Florida is currently prosecuting these cases, as reported by the DOJ.

Nationwide, the offenses by other individuals included the production, distribution, and possession of CSAM, online enticement and transportation of minors, and child sex trafficking. In notable instances, a state trooper in Minneapolis was arrested for allegedly producing CSAM while wearing his uniform, and an illegal alien from Mexico is accused of transporting a minor across state lines for sex. These cases were brought to light as part of Project Safe Childhood, which is an ongoing Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 aimed at addressing the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The effort to protect children and to educate communities about the dangers they face has been a significant focus for the Justice Department. In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, Operation Restore Justice highlights the Department’s strong dedication to protecting children. The operation also emphasizes the importance of parental awareness and community support in these investigations. For instance, in one case, a Californian man was arrested after a young victim came forward following an online safety school presentation. The Department has underscored the importance of these aspects, urging public vigilance and the reporting of suspected child exploitation through various hotlines, including the FBI's tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324) and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's 24/7 hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST, as mentioned in the DOJ press release.

The defendants remain presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The public can access related court documents and information through the website of the District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
