A tragic collision on Interstate 15 near Payson has claimed the lives of two drivers, following a harrowing incident that occurred the previous day. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, a blue Kia veered across multiple lanes and through the median before launching into the air and striking a green Jeep Gladiator in a head-on collision.
The catastrophic crash transpired near milepost 250 at around 4:40 PM, where for reasons yet to be determined, the Kia departed from its lane, breaking through the median's cable barrier, which subsequently was sheared off by the impact, authorities have indicated that both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene, sadly there were no other passengers involved in the wreck. The aftermath led to two more vehicles colliding with the strewn debris and the torn barrier; however, thankfully, no other injuries were reported in those cars.
The I-15 was subjected to traffic delays as emergency responders and crash investigators worked the site, piecing together the moments that led to the disaster. The southbound traffic took a detour at the following exit as the investigation and clean-up continued well into the evening. Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.
