Early this morning, gunfire in Fort Lauderdale led to an ongoing police investigation and resulted in two individuals being detained. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department was called to the scene near a bar along State Road 84, according to a report from Local 10 News. Arriving just before 4 a.m., officers discovered multiple vehicles involved in an incident and quickly detained two suspects who were at the scene.
The specifics of what transpired are still to fully come to light, but evidence at the initial location suggested that a shooting had occurred. Despite no victims being found on site, a subsequent report confirmed that someone with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds sought treatment at a Tamarac hospital shortly after the incident. The name of the victim has not been released, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 965-493-8477.
Simultaneously, 7News reported that two cars were found to have collided near the 1000 block of State Road 84, also known as Marina Mile, around the same time as the shooting, though it remains unclear if, or how, this crash is related to the gunfire. The investigation has been complicated by the lack of onsite victims when officers arrived.
Details on the cause of the incident and the circumstances leading up to the violence are limited as the situation continues to be investigated. Fort Lauderdale Police have not yet released further information on the suspects in custody or the condition of the hospitalized individual. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses to help piece together the events of that early morning.
