Early this morning, Miami Gardens became the scene of a residential calamity; a fire erupted at a home in the 2000 block of Northwest 185th Terrace, leading to the discovery of two deceased individuals. The blaze was reported at 3:34 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find the structure fully involved. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews undertook a defensive attack to extinguish the flames while ensuring the protection of the surrounding area, particularly since the home experienced partial structural collapse, according to Local 10 News.
Initial hypotheses from first responders suggest a possible gas explosion could have instigated the conflagration though the inquiry into the exact cause remains ongoing, as flames had already died down; but the official determination awaits, according to firefighting officials in a communication with Local 10 News. In a separate report by 7News, detail was given on the deceased, revealing one to be a woman in her 60s.
The urgency of the situation escalated when a relative of the victims, awakened by a loud explosion and subsequently discovering the fire, was unable to locate his aunt and uncle. Despite his effort to call 911, the relatives were ultimately found to have not survived, their remains located within the decimated home by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The event disrupted the neighborhood, where a resident, Vanessa Wilcox mentioned to 7News "I just heard a booming sound," articulating her shock and reaction to what she described as a bomb that went off. In the turmoil, a puppy escaped but was later found safe, with aerial footage from 7Skyforce showing the extensive destruction of the home, including a collapsed roof and the presence of emergency crews managing the remnants and addressing hotspots.
Notably, reports have indicated that a scent of propane was present in the vicinity of the home's backyard, a detail adding another layer to the investigation that seeks to unravel the sequence of events that culminated in this tragic loss.
