Two individuals were apprehended in Key Largo on allegations of drug trafficking and child negligence, as reported by law enforcement officials. CBS News Miami disclosed details citing the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, stating that Addison Lee Baumgardner, 37, and Shelby Lynn Baer, 33, were arrested on Friday after they were allegedly observed selling narcotics in the presence of Baer's 6-year-old child.
A deeper investigation led to the issuance of a search warrant, during which substantial quantities of illicit substances were seized, including fentanyl powder and pills, powder and crack cocaine, and a mix of cocaine in liquid form; furthermore, drug paraphernalia and an amount of cash were found, which deputies suspect to be proceeds from drug transactions. Baumgardner is confronted with a slew of accusations encompassing trafficking in multiple drugs and Baer faces charges for trafficking fentanyl alongside child neglect charges, this additional information coming from NBC Miami.
The 6-year-old caught amidst this illicit trade was taken into protective custody, being placed with a family member; consequently, the Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified about the incident. The ramifications for the child's wellbeing remain under scrutiny as the case against the arrested pair proceeds.
Both Baumgardner and Baer now find themselves confined to jail, as they face the legal consequences of their alleged actions.
