In a coordinated effort to address a deadly fentanyl overdose case, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), along with the Worth County and Tift County Sheriff’s Offices, have arrested Mikel Julies Singleton on multiple charges.
Singleton, a 48-year-old from Ty Ty, Tift County, is facing two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter related to the overdose deaths. Pronounced dead at the scene, Morgan Young and Bailey Barfield were discovered by Worth County Sheriff’s Office last Saturday, which the GBI reports. Autopsies for the two individuals, occurring at the GBI Crime Lab, will seek to uncover the exact cause of their deaths.
Following the overdoses, a search warrant executed at Singleton's home led to the seizure of substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, and a Schedule 1 cathinone. The GBI release suggests that there may be additional charges pending as the investigation unfolds.
In the aftermath of the drug-related arrest, the Southwestern Drug Enforcement Office is reaching out for community assistance. Anyone with details about drug activities in the area can get in touch by calling the enforcement office at 229-420-1254 or by submitting an anonymous tip. Tips can be sent by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477), online through the GBI website, or via the See Something, Send Something mobile app, as indicated by the agency's public plea for information. The Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office serves a 42-county area in Southwest Georgia, an expanse that is beset with the same drug plagues affecting many parts of the nation.
Singleton is currently detained at the Tift County Jail.
