A spate of violence rocked central Georgia this weekend with multiple shootings in Macon resulting in four deaths and numerous injuries. Yesterday, three men were fatally shot outside Midtown Daiquiri Bar and Grill, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident occurred around midnight on 4376 Log Cabin Drive.
The victims were identified as 28-year-old Jedarrius Meadows, Jr., 32-year-old Javonta Faulks, and 24-year-old Javarsia Meadows. In addition to the fatalities, six others were reported to have been injured and taken to the hospital and are said to be in stable condition, as stated by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, who also mentioned, “It’s frustrating and its depressing to see the killing,” in an interview obtained by AP News. Jones, who runs a local anti-violence organization, lamented the city's recent uptick in violence: "We were doing so good, but this week alone we’ve had five homicides."
Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the bar shooting, and the motivation behind the attacks remains undetermined. The wider context of the incident is a troubling surge in local violence, which also saw Jaurice Markel Haywood, age 25, shot and killed at a graduation party less than a day earlier. Two other men were injured in that separate event, including one who is in critical condition. Haywood's death and the injuries sustained by others add to a harrowing count of violence within a 48-hour span in Macon.
The community of Macon-Bibb County, with a population just shy of 160,000, is grappling with the aftermath of these events. Local law enforcement and the coroner's office continue to investigate both shootings, as details continue to emerge. Those with information about the incidents are urged to come forward and contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
