In an announcement reflecting respect and remembrance, the officials behind the Wings of the Rainbow tribute have postponed their groundbreaking ceremony originally set for June. The decision was made to avoid a scheduling conflict with the private tour for families and survivors of the Pulse nightclub tragedy, which also takes place in June, and will now be rescheduled for October to coincide with LGBTQ+ History Month. In a statement obtained by the Osceola County, the organizers emphasized their commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that those directly impacted by the Pulse nightclub event can partake in both occasions without the burden of choice.
The Pulse nightclub, remembered as a site of immense loss, will open its doors one last time for victims' families and survivors on June 12, this visit serving as a contemplative prelude to the Wings of the Rainbow tribute’s groundbreaking. The tribute is created by noted artist JEFRË and set to embody a community-led vision.
The tour marks an essential step in the healing journey of those families and survivors, who will now also have the opportunity to gather by Lake Toho during the mild embrace of autumn, as they witness the tribute’s initiation in Brownie Wise Park.
