
A recent shooting on Monday evening has left a young man critically injured near Wade Walker Park in DeKalb County. The incident was reported to have occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. at the park's proximity, located at the intersection of Rockbridge Road and S. Stone Mountain Lithonia Road.
Police arrived on the scene to find the young man with life-threatening injuries. As of now, his identity remains undisclosed to the public. "The victim is a young man who was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries," the DeKalb County Police Department said in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting, including a potential suspect or suspects involved, are still not available, with the investigation ongoing.
Authorities have yet to release any details regarding the assailant, leaving the community to speculate and worry about the safety in their neighborhood parks. McCray, a local resident, expressed their concern to FOX 5 Atlanta, "It's unnerving not knowing what's happened, I bring my kids here all the time. It could have been any of us."
DeKalb County Police are actively urging anyone with information to step forward to aid the investigation. They have encouraged community members to anonymously send tips via the Tip411 app or to text "DKPD" followed by their tip to 847411. They are hoping to gather information that could potentially lead to identifying the person responsible for the shooting.
