The Florida League of Cities has recognized key Boca Raton officials as 2025 Home Rule Heroes for their strong advocacy during the most recent Legislative Session. Mayor Scott Singer, Council Members Yvette Drucker and Marc Wigder, along with City Manager George Brown, were honored for their dedicated efforts to protect and promote local governance and support the League's legislative priorities.
FLC's Casey Cook hailed the resolve of these officials who didn't back down when it came to pushing for local discretion in governance, he said in a statement obtained by the city's website, “The dedication and effort of these local officials who tirelessly advocated for local decision-making was a difference-maker this legislative session.” The League’s recognition highlights the officials’ proactive engagement with Florida lawmakers, offering them a firsthand perspective on the challenges cities face. Their efforts provided crucial insight at a time when state legislation increasingly risks overriding local decision-making with one-size-fits-all solutions. Such top-down approaches, the League warns, could disrupt the unique operations of municipalities like Boca Raton.
Mayor Singer made it known that local leaders earn the trust of the people because they know what flies on Main Street, “We will keep making our local voices heard, especially when lawmakers at other levels often push big government solutions that cause problems in cities like ours,” he posited with an understanding that these grassroots positions hit closer to home for residents, Drucker added her two cents, appreciating the nod to her work for the community drawing attention to an evolving political landscape where local interests must be juggled against the broader reach of state and federal machinations, as noted by the City of Boca Raton.
