The Miami-Dade community faced an unsettling incident this week as authorities discovered a body in a local canal. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that the body was found yesterday floating under a bridge near Northwest 25th Street and 72nd Avenue, as mentioned by WSVN. Deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene after a report of a sighting of the person in the water.
Homicide detectives have since taken charge of the investigation after the remains were located in the canal. A road blockade and the area cordoned off with crime scene tape was visible in footage captured by Sky 10 shortly after 1 p.m., as described by Local10. The body was covered with a tarp at the scene.
The identity of the victim, together with the cause and manner of death, remains undetermined. Officials are awaiting the conclusions of the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office, which will identify the gender and identity of the remains. The Sheriff's Office described the ongoing investigation as "unclassified" at this time, indicating the complex nature of the case.
Further details await as the Homicide Bureau's investigation continues, and authorities have not immediately released additional information.
