Emergency responders in Pekin, Illinois, conducted a grim retrieval on Wednesday morning when they were dispatched to the Pekin Riverfront to recover a body from the Illinois River. The initial call came in shortly after 8:45 a.m., and the Pekin Fire Department was quickly on the scene to execute their search on the water.
According to a report by 25 News Now, a bystander had noticed the body floating and alerted authorities. The fire crews managed to quickly locate and retrieve the body of a man, though details surrounding the identity of the individual or the circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation. It has not been shared if foul play is suspected to have played a role in the death.
The Pekin Police Department together with the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office are spearheading the investigation into the unsettling discovery. At present, there is scant detail available about the man or the events that resulted in his discovery in the river.
