Heads up, drivers in Calcasieu Parish — expect some slowdowns early this week. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced it's time for a checkup on the health of the Ellender Bridge along LA 27 at MM 72. Specifically, lane closures will alternate from 8:00am to 5:00pm today, June 16, and tomorrow, June 17.
Traffic will still be able to pass, but only one lane at a time as crews work to thoroughly inspect the bridge. Commuters should plan to possibly add some extra time to their journey. The DOTD emphasizes that these closures are a necessary part of routine bridge maintenance to ensure continued safety. According to the DOTD official announcement, "The closures are necessary for routine bridge inspection."
For those who live or work in the area, it might be wise to promptly seek out alternate routes or be prepared for potential delays. While the DOTD has done its part to inform the public in advance, the actual impact on traffic flow will only become clear as the maintenance begins. Keep an eye on local traffic reports, and you can always check the DOTD's website for the latest updates.
