The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a forecast that sees Central Indiana drenched in moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days, with today's humidity clocking in at a sticky 93%. According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are set to persist well into the week, with "showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm" for today. The high is expected near 80 degrees with the likelihood of precipitation standing pat at 80%, promising a wet and overcast day ahead for residents.
While the severe storm threat is low, flooding worries are on the high side due to the forecasted downpours. The intense rainfall has the potential to increasingly saturate the ground, which could lead to localized flooding in more vulnerable areas. Additionally, the curious phenomenon of cold air funnels could make an appearance.
The start of the week doesn't provide much reprieve from the wet conditions, with the chance of precipitation lingering. The NWS has flagged a "chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm" on Sunday and a similar forecast leading into next Tuesday, by when the chance of showers and thunderstorms ratchets up to 50%. While storms might disrupt plans and outdoor activities, serious thunderstorm concerns thankfully seem absent for the most part.
