
The Chicago Police Department has reported the arrest of 20-year-old Daymonte Byrd following an alleged incident of aggravated battery that left a 59-year-old female seriously injured. The statement, published by CPD, indicates that the suspect was apprehended on May 29, 2025, after being identified as the shooter in an earlier event on March 28, 2025, in the 6100 block of S. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. alongside charges for manufacturing and possession of illegal substances.
Byrd, who lists his residence on the same Southside block, faces three felony counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, one felony count for firing into an occupied vehicle, and another felony count for cocaine manufacturing/delivery of less than 15 grams. A misdemeanor count for possessing drug paraphernalia rounds out the charges. The Chicago Police's narrative states that a second woman, aged 33, was also present at the shooting scene but did not sustain injuries. Officials have scheduled a detention hearing to be held on June 1, 2025, at the Criminal Courthouse at 2600 S. California.
There have yet to be further details released regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the condition of the 59-year-old victim.
