The Chicago Police Department issued a business alert concerning a series of commercial burglaries that have struck retailers in the 16th and 17th Districts. Perpetrators, utilizing a silver Hyundai sedan, have been reported shattering storefronts, be it a window or glass door, to unlawfully access and deplete cash registers of their holdings.
According to the CPD, the break-ins occurred over a short time frame, beginning on the night of June 2 and extending into the early hours of June 3. With their identities obscured by hooded sweatshirts and masks, part wearing balaclavas in black and others distinct with a "scream" mask festooned in red, white, and blue, the three male suspects carried out the burglaries undeterred by the night's cloak.
The affected establishments span several neighborhoods, including the 6100 block of N Milwaukee Ave in Norwood Park East, the 5200 block of N Elston Ave in Jefferson Park, the 6200 block of W Touhy Ave in Wildwood, and lastly, the 3700 block of W Irving Park Rd in Irving Park, as detailed by the CPD. These incidents have seeded a heightened vigilance amongst business owners, urging them to ensure their surveillance systems are actively recording and to diligently report any and all suspicious activities immediately to law enforcement.
