Residents in the Fulton Market District, West Town, and Tri-Taylor neighborhoods are on high alert following a series of armed robberies that have prompted a community warning from the Chicago Police Department. According to a CPD community alert, the incidents, which took place on June 19th, involved assailants using a black Acura sedan to approach victims before committing the robberies at gunpoint.
Witness descriptions outline the offenders as three African-American males, aged between 20 to 30, with a height range of 6'00"-6'02" and weights spanning from 140 to 170 lbs. All were wearing hooded sweatshirts and black ski masks during the time of the crimes. The police alert emphasizes that they were observed fleeing the scene in the black Acura sedan after robbing victims, marking the streets with the tire tracks in one incident before and after they pistol-whipped a victim.
The targeted locations detailed by the Chicago Police Department encompass the 200 block of North Elizabeth St in the Fulton Market District at 10:12 AM, the 400 block of North Ashland Ave in West Town at 10:23 AM, and the 800 block of South Claremont Ave in Tri-Taylor at 10:29 AM. The swift succession of these events underscores a bold pattern of crime in these communities.
Community members are being urged by the police to prioritize safety and cooperate with authorities by remembering unique physical characteristics of the offenders and to never resist a robbery, echoing that personal safety overrides property value. Information such as scars, limps, or specific dental features could prove invaluable in tracking the suspects. Provided with the information upon witnessing the crime, residents must dial 9-1-1 without delay and are advised not to touch anything until police arrive, to safeguard potential evidence.
